Our Fresh Spirulina
If you have fresh spirulina in your hand and you're wondering how to consume it, here are some tips. Fresh spirulina differs from its dry form (powder/tablets/flakes) and has no aftertaste or smell. You can combine it with various foods and drinks without overpowering their taste. Add it to juices, smoothies, sauces, spreads, salads, and desserts. However, it's recommended not to heat it as it may damage its nutritional composition. You can get recommended recipes and serving suggestions from us. Consuming fresh spirulina daily can help strengthen your body, prevent diseases, and support recovery after training. Our Fresh Frozen Spirulina can be frozen for up to 18 months (the expiration date appears on top of the box you purchased).
Fresh Frozen Spirulina has a mild metallic, sweet smell. If your pods have developed a strong odor, they may have thawed during shipping. Let us know and we will send you a new batch!
Throughout the web, you can find different (and sometimes even strange) recommendations for how to consume Spirulina and the recommended daily dose,
Unfortunately, most of them are not based on facts or any research. In addition, you should know that there is a difference between consuming Spirulina in its dry form (powder/balls/flakes) and consuming it in its fresh form.
The recommended daily dose for fresh frozen Spirulina for adults is 20 grams. You can eat up to 5 servings of 100 grams a day. Why 100 grams? Because of the Spirulina's high Iron content, every 20 grams has about a recommended Dietary Allowance of Iron. Spirulina can be consumed at any time of the day. Still, our recommendation is to consume it in the morning or in the middle of the day to benefit from increased alertness and vitality.
Athletes can also consume 30-40 grams, preferably immediately after the exercise. Spirulina is especially recommended for seniors due to its rich nutritional composition and complete absorption into the blood. It is easy to digest and can be combined with any drink or meal.
Fresh Spirulina differs from spirulina powder or tablets in that it efficiently absorbs essential nutrients. The production of spirulina powder involves high-temperature processing that compromises its nutritional content. Proteins denature, vitamins degrade, and fatty acids oxidize during this process. Studies show a 40% decrease in phycocyanin and a 10% decrease in beta-carotene in powder production. Over time, these values and vitality continue to decline. For instance, after 45 days of dry storage, beta-carotene decreases by 50% (dry Spirulina has a 5-year shelf life). Processing methods can also affect taste and lead to off-odors.
In contrast, our fresh frozen Spirulina lacks aftertaste or odor, offers 3X the nutrition of processed Spirulina, and is rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream.
Algecore has developed freezing techniques specifically to guarantee the long-term preservation of Spirulina while maintaining its full nutritional value. Our fresh frozen Spirulina undergoes no heat treatment or processing, and we refrain from introducing any artificial additives or substances during its production.

Occasionally, temporary side effects like a slight increase in body temperature due to a faster metabolism changes in stool frequency and color from altered intestinal flora and toxin elimination, or mild headaches and dizziness may occur. Typically, these symptoms resolve within a few days. However, individuals with specific medical conditions or those taking regular medications, such as diabetes or liver disease patients, or those with edema or renal function problems and Blood clotting problems -Â should consult a doctor before adding Spirulina to their regimen.
